After School Club Registration & Enrolment
Overview
The After School Club is licensed for 25 children. However, we typically cap the program at ten (with one staff member), or fifteen (two staff members). We do this to create the best possible experience for the children, and our staff.
Registration and the Waitlist
Registration begins in May for the coming September.
Parents of children who are enrolled in The After School Club on a regular basis at March 31 and whose account is in good standing are considered to be ‘returning’.
General registration begins at 3:00pm on the first Monday in June, at which time registration is open to all parents of children who will be eligible for The After School Club in September. Children may begin at The ASC if they will turn five years old by December 31 of the year in which they enrol.
One week prior (that is, beginning at 3pm on the last Monday in May), the returning parents are given the opportunity to register their children. This includes both children who are returning for another year in the program, and also eligible siblings. These registrations will be received on a first come, first served basis.
To register your child, you must pay a deposit equal to one half of the anticipated cost of your September fees. (that is, if you’re booking for three days per week, we will require a deposit equal to six days’ fees) This deposit is non-refundable, but will be applied against your last month’s fees once you give notice.
Payments will be received in the form of cheque or money order. We do not take cash.
At 4pm on the afternoon of the last Friday in May, registration for returning parents is closed. As of the first Monday in June, returning parents who have not taken advantage of the opportunity to register early will be on the same footing as new parents.
Registrations are received on a first come, first served basis. The date and time are written on each registration form as it is received. Registration forms must be given directly to The ASC coordinator.
Applications are accepted on an ongoing basis for the current and coming year and children are taken into the program as space becomes available.
Adults may register no more than one child in addition to their own.
Once a day’s spaces are filled, names will be taken on a waitlist. This waitlist is only for spaces that may become available during the coming year.
The ASC reserves the right to accept children into the program in such a way as to balance a group’s gender composition and compatibility, regardless of the order in which applications have been received.
For instance, if a day with 15 spaces available receives nine consecutive applications for boys, the coordinator may decide to reserve the remainder of the space for girls, even if the tenth applicant is a boy. We have learned that groups heavily skewed to one or another gender do not function as well as those with a more even division.
We recognize that if circumstances prompt us to implement this policy it may not be well received by any parents whose children are held back, but we feel compelled to protect the quality of the program.
Vacancies and current clients
We will keep a list of children whose parents would like to increase their days, or switch to other ones. This list will be consulted FIRST when a vacancy comes up, effectively giving existing clients priority over those waiting to get into the program. However, a child will not be moved to another day without an assessment of the group dynamic.
Staff
Staff members (existing and new) who need child care while they are working in one of BCC’s programs are given priority when it comes to spaces in the Daycare and The After School Club. We do this because without our skilled and hard-working staff, we could have no programs.
